An anonymous donor from the 鶹ƵAPK Class of 1957 has “paid it forward” to students of the university with a generous philanthropic gift in excess of $1 million.
Choosing to be referred to as a “grateful alum,” the donor’s express wish was that the money would go where their dollars will make the greatest impact. After working with university staff, it was determined that student scholarships will immediately put the investment to work for 鶹ƵAPK’s students.
“This gift is truly transformational. Our students deserve 鶹ƵAPK and this investment will help to ensure that a 鶹ƵAPK education is available and affordable for many,” Acting/Interim President Kathleen Murray said. “This alumnus has a passion for a strong liberal arts education and is choosing to pay it forward by ensuring that others have the same benefit. 鶹ƵAPK is fortunate to have donors who identify needs and act, as they are able, on filling this need to benefit the students of today and the workers of tomorrow.”
Earlier this year, 鶹ƵAPK and other universities were notified about a last-minute change to the Minnesota State Grant aid calculation. This amounted to a net increase in tuition for students who do not have access to the North Star Promise program. 鶹ƵAPK helped to offset the added costs of schooling for these students and this gift will go even farther, helping students advance in the 鶹ƵAPK mission of creating a diverse and collaborative community of learners who build successful lives of leadership, scholarship and service.
